TBC: Rethinking Teaching Quality through Assessing Online Learning
Through the COVID-19 lockdowns, universities around the world transitioned to remote and online learning. Higher Education management looked, like never before, to Quality and Educational Development Units to lead and support this transition and yet uphold standards for a strong student learning experience. Based on that experience, faculty and students globally have concluded that blended and hybrid learning is a preferred pedagogical approach both to enable access and better engage the learner. External Quality Assurance agencies require Higher Education Institutions to verify that they can create enabling environments to support faculty and students to adopt such blended, hybrid and bichronous online learning approaches without compromising on teaching quality.
This active learning session will build on experience from the Aga Khan University’s multi-continental campuses across South and Central Asia, East Africa and the UK to enable participants, through peer-learning communities, to reflect on the following:
-
How do our QA frameworks assess teaching quality, and what are the differences now that digital tools are employed?
-
What opportunities does the digitization of teaching create to enhance teaching quality and learner engagement in all modalities, face-to-face, blended and fully online provision?
-
What quality compliance challenges need to be addressed (e.g., policies, workload assessment, credit frameworks) to create an enabling environment to move forward in a digital age?
Facilitated by:
Prof. Tashmin Khamis
Vice Provost the Aga Khan University (AKU).
Ms. Azra Naseem
Director of Blended and Digital learning, The Aga Khan University (AKU).
