Hallmarks of Success Playbooks: Enhancing quality of digital teaching and learning

Higher education institutions are implementing digital and blended delivery approaches, drawing on the pandemic experience –but do we really know what good looks like?  This interactive session introduces delegates to the QAA Hallmarks of Success playbook series. It provides a chance to hear from a UK university using the playbooks alongside a QAA colleague involved in designing the resource. The session will include an interactive activity enabling delegates to explore how the playbooks can assist them.

The playbooks, which are informed by literature and engagement with staff and students, cover: Assessment in digital and blended pedagogy; Course design, approval, and management; Student centred learning and teaching; Supporting and empowering teaching staff. They can be used to stimulate discussion and can also be contextualised to individual institution's strategy, culture, and approach to digital education.

Facilitated by:

Dr. Lia Blaj-Ward

Dr Lia Blaj-Ward (SFHEA) has extensive experience of assuring and enhancing the quality of international students’ learning at university.  Her 2022 volume with Palgrave (Academic Literacies Provision for International Students: Evaluating Impact and Quality) captures this experience, contextualised in relevant scholarly literature.  Lia is currently Chair (2022-2025) of the BALEAP Course Accreditation Scheme, a developmental peer review initiative which enables its members to uphold course standards, as well as building capacity for quality assurance and enhancement more broadly.  Lia’s accreditation-linked work builds on other projects she has led such as setting up funding schemes for colleagues in her field (e.g., 2020 Narratives of Innovation and Resilience and 2019 Collaborative Practice) and is informed by attendance at professional development events such as the Advance HE course for external examiners (see blog post here). Lia  values and promotes collaborative learning in cross-functional settings.
